The Philosophy of Finnish Forest Rest

In Finnish culture, the concept of metsämieli (forest mindfulness) emphasizes that being surrounded by natural wood textures and natural light lowers blood pressure and mental exhaustion. Helsinki Airport transformed its Non-Schengen transit hub by installing over 2,500 square meters of solid Finnish spruce and birch louvers.

The Aukio plaza is enveloped by a 360-degree high-definition ambient projection wall depicting real Finnish natural seasons, matched with high clerestory windows that capture the delicate, diffused northern daylight.

"Aukio is strictly governed under Finavia's 'Silent Airport' doctrine: no gate call announcements, no commercial audio jingles, and complete acoustic absorption materials on walls and ceilings."

Rest Features for Long-Haul Transfers

1. Ergonomic Wooden Wave Daybeds

Positioned along the northern light perimeter, these contoured timber loungers allow passengers to stretch out horizontally and rest without paying for premium airline club memberships.

2. Forest Audio Immersion

Custom hidden directional acoustic cones emit gentle recordings of rustling pine trees, sub-Arctic winds, and gentle stream water recorded in Lapland national parks.
